A cookie is a small file a site stores on your device. The Atlas uses as few as we can. Advertising cookies run only after you accept them.

Essential

Session cookies for the night desk (staff sign-in) and a record of your cookie choice. The magazine cannot keep you signed in without the first; it cannot remember “no ads cookies” without the second.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

If you accept, Google and its partners may set cookies to serve and measure ads, including ads based on visits to this site and others.

• Third party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to your website or other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to your users based on their visit to your sites and/or other sites on the Internet.
• Opt out of personalized ads at Google Ads Settings or aboutads.info.

Google may use the DoubleClick cookie. You can manage Google advertising cookies in your browser and at Google's ad settings. See also How Google uses cookies in advertising.

Analytics

We do not load a separate analytics suite on the public magazine. If that changes, this page will name it.

How to choose

The first-visit notice lets you accept or refuse advertising cookies. Refuse, and we do not load the AdSense script. You can also block cookies in the browser; essential desk cookies may then fail for staff.
