The Atlas takes its name from the book that tries to hold the world on a single page. We built a living magazine: it reads the global wire, in many languages, then writes something that did not exist before. Combined signal. Original sentences. Named editors who will put a judgment on the page.
What we are not
We are not a scrape. We are not a rewrite mill. We do not paste another outlet’s copy and call it aggregation. Google News is used as a radar — headlines and outlets as corroboration — never as a body-text source.
How a story is made
- The desk crawls world-wire headlines across regions and languages.
- Related items are clustered so a story has more than one witness.
- The specialist editor for that section drafts analysis in their own voice.
- Facts are checked against the cluster; opinion is labelled as opinion.
- Related public conversation on YouTube, X, Instagram and Facebook is mapped, not copied.
Fact-checking
Quotes, quantities and attributions are checked against the wires on the table. That work stays on the night desk. We do not publish a “desk check” box on the story, and we do not emit ClaimReview markup for crawlers. If the copy was wrong, we file a correction the reader can see. Editorial standards is the Google News version of this promise.
E-E-A-T, in practice
The legal publisher is Atlasarchy. Desk names are house bylines until they are verified — a mailbox on atlasarchy.com and/or a public profile with rel="me". That record lives on the masthead. Experience in the copy is still the argument. If we cannot verify a number, we do not print the number. If we print the wrong number, we file a correction.
